Gloucestershire Amphibian and Reptile Group would like to welcome anyone who is interested in wildlife and particularly our native reptiles and amphibians. As a new group, we will operate independently but also be affiliated to the Amphibian and Reptile Groups of the UK (www.arguk.org).
We aim to promote an understanding of these fascinating animals, find out and monitor how well they are doing across Gloucestershire and try to improve and join up their habitat wherever possible. We will also promote interest in reptiles and amphibians amongst the public and particularly children.
All members will have the opportunity to take part in amphibian and reptile surveys to see these animals at first hand. Surveys will look for new sites and monitor those sites which are known. There may also be the opportunity for hands-on work in sensitively shaping reptile habitat and amphibian breeding ponds.
The Group will concentrate initially on the Forest of Dean and continue work already in progress as part of the legacy of the Foresters’ Forest Programme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. However, we welcome involvement of other enthusiasts across the County to express their views, share their knowledge and help to shape the Group and its activities.
If you would like to find out more about our new group then please contact us on: GlosARG@arguk.org
We hope you will join us and thank you for your support.
