Central Scotland Wildlife Group (CSWG) was established in December 2024 and operates across West Lothian and North and South Lanarkshire. We are a growing community of volunteers, bringing together locals, naturalists, professional ecologists and partnership organisations to take practical action for biodiversity through habitat improvement, wildlife monitoring, and inclusive engagement.
Our activities have included hedgehog releases, installing and monitoring bat and pine marten boxes, amphibian DNA sampling and Great Crested Newt Surveys. Volunteers contributed hundreds of hours across the region, enhancing woodland and wetland sites, including pond maintenance and restoration. A particular highlight has been discovering four new nightjar breeding locations across the central belt.
Through our activity and collaboration, the group aims to strengthen local wildlife knowledge and support positive outcomes for our species and habitats across central Scotland. We are open to anyone with an interest in nature and a keenness to help restore nature locally.
